Digitization in the production sector, also referred to as Industry 4.0, is revolutionizing industry and has evolved into the transformation of core operational processes in companies. The current stage of digitization is about intelligently linking all technologies, processes, enterprise ecosystems and „things“ into an overall digital concept.<\/p>\n

The aim is to leverage further optimization potential in production and achieve further quality improvements. For example, „predictive maintenance“ based on „predictive analytics“ can significantly increase maintenance efficiency and reduce costs. Forecasting models are developed from the analysis of historical diagnostic and associated sensor data. These predictive models identify emerging failure modes before they actually happen. Thus, expensive failures can be avoided. Companies can generate many benefits through Industrie 4.0 solutions such as:<\/p>\n

    In addition, companies can add digital functions to their product portfolio and introduce innovative, data-based services, so-called smart services, to increase their industrial value creation.<\/p>\n

    The basis for optimizations and additional services described above is the integration of physical and virtual objects into a global network, Internet of Things (IoT), and the evaluation, analysis and monitoring of their data in real time. In a typical IoT scenario, several hundred sensors generate a variety of status information every minute, every day, 24 hours, 365 days a year. This flood of data is processed, analyzed, monitored in real time and generates several hundred terabytes of data per year. Data is used to design and optimize statistical models or develop data-driven business models. The requirements that an Industrie4.0 solution must fulfill are derived from such scenarios.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/section>
